Phones under Rs. 10,000 offer some good
features such as build quality, the ability to run a smartphone OS
smoothly, access to a large number of apps, so on and so forth. On the
other hand, to maintain the low price point, they compromise on some
features such as the camera, display quality, built in storage and more.
Here, we have shortlisted five products that will give you the best
possible bang for your buck in the sub-Rs. 10,000 price range. There are
feature phones on this list for those of you that want to spend even

1. Xolo Q700 (Rs. 8,850)
The
Xolo Q700
houses a 4.5-inch IPS display with 540x960 pixel resolution giving it a
245ppi pixel density. It has a 5MP rear camera and VGA video calling
camera. Under the hood, the Q700 has a 1.2GHz quad-core (MediaTek)
processor, 1GB of RAM, along with 4GB built-in storage expandable up to
32GB via a microSD card. A 2400mAh battery powers the Q700. On the
connectivity front, the Xolo Q700 supports 3G, Wi-Fi, WLAN and
Bluetooth.

The smartphone runs on stock Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and you have
access to the Play Store for your app needs. It comes preloaded with the
Xolo Switch, Xolo Secure and Xolo Power app. The secure and power apps
give users access to a security app and an app to control battery
consumption. The Xolo Switch app allows users to create up to 4 profiles
with different lock screens, apps and wallpapers. Users can change
their profile with a simple flick. Xolo Secure gives users access to
remotely lock and wipe phone data, cloud backup for SMS and call log,
alerts on SIM change and more, which is very useful if the phone gets
stolen.
2. Micromax Canvas 2 (Rs. 9,399)
The
Micromax Canvas 2
may be an old phone but if you want a smooth Android experience on a
budget, then this is the device for you. It has a dual-core processor in
a day dominated by quad-core but the device still has enough power to
run the apps from the Google Play Store. The phone has a good design,
very reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
The smartphone comes preloaded with its own app store in addition to
the Google Play Store. The Micromax apps store gives users access to
local content such as Bollywood gossip, News and more. The smartphone
ran on the Android 4.0 Jelly Bean OS straight out of the box, but
Micromax has updated the device to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
3. Nokia Lumia 520 (Rs. 8,400)
If you want to give Windows Phone 8 a try on a budget smartphone then the
Nokia Lumia 520
is the device for you. The OS works extremely fluidly on the budget
smartphone and it has the ability to house a microSD card up to 64GB.
The build of the smartphone too is one of the best in its price range.
The smartphone may compromise on a flash, but the camera is really
good for taking shots in well-lit conditions. Windows Phone as an OS is
ideal for those that want smartphone capabilities, but aren’t ready for
the openness of Android. You do have a great app library (even though it
isn’t as extensive as the Play Store or Apple’s App Store) with the
popular apps such as Facebook and Whatsapp easily available.
4. Nokia Asha 501 (Rs. 4,700)
If you are sceptical of trying out a smartphone OS on a budget, then you can consider picking up the
Asha 501.
The device is a feature phone and is extremely well built. If you want a
phone that has the ability to last for more than a day, you can
consider this device. It also has one of the better FM radios we have
seen on a budget phone.
The touch screen response too is quite good especially the keyboard
typing experience. The Asha 501 borrows design elements from the Lumia
series making it an attractive feature phone. The calling capabilities
of the device are good too.
5. Sony Xperia E Dual (Rs. 8,500)
The
Sony Xperia E Dual,
as the name suggests shows off dual-SIM capabilities. It has a 3.5-inch
HVGA display that is comfortable to use. It has a 1530mAh battery that
can last you more than a day. Of the 4GB built-in storage just 2GB is
available to the user but it is expandable via a microSD card up to
32GB.
The UI of the smartphone is fluid even though the Android OS is
skinned. You have access to the Play Store for all your app needs and
the smartphone is skinned so you have access to a bunch of Sony specific
widgets. If you are looking for a smartphone with a different UI and
some good audio from the speakers, then this is the device for you.
